This 1890-1930's style LaRose Chore Coat is custom made to order using top quality fabric, buttons and thread.
The patterning of this jacket is reminiscent of early turn of the century work coats. With its two piece back panel, traditional 4 pocket design with scalloped trim and triangular reenforcement stitching on the corners. This is a time consuming method of reenforcement but the end result is both elegant and strong, and thoroughly worth the effort.
(I personally believe the triangular reenforcement stitching is superior to the more common riveted reinforcements. The reason being, there are no additional holes cut in the fabric for the triangular stitching, whereas rivets puncture through the denim creating a weak point in the fabric that the rivet can pull through.)
The Triangular stitching harks back much earlier in the 1800s to when the Levis company held the patent for riveted reinforcements from 1873 to the 1890s. Many competitors scrambled to find ways to reenforce their jackets, pants, and overalls in their own unique way. Eventually the only option left for many makers in the late 1800s was custom stitched reinforcements such as the triangles on this LaRose Chore Coat.
Interestingly enough as time and technology marched on, manufacturing improved thread strength greatly as well specialized sewing machine development such as the Bar-tack machine, completely eliminating the need for rivets all together.

Wait times are generally around 3 months depending upon the time of the year.
During busy seasons wait times can sometimes increase to 6 months, though I do my best to fulfill as quickly as possible while maintaining high quality standards. Feel free to reach out for current lead times.
As per the original work coats from over 100 years ago, the LaRose Chore Coat is made using Raw/Loomstate denim, meaning the fabric is unwashed and unsanforized exactly as it comes off the loom. The feel of the fabric is often strong, crispy and smooth but softens up nicely with age and use.
Washing instructions for Raw/Loomstate denim it is usually recommended to hand wash cold and line dry. Some shrinkage will still occur however, though it is generally in the length of the body and sleeves, and not much shrinkage in the width if washed using the recommended method.
It is for this reason I tend to make the sleeves about 26" long which is roughly 3/4" to 1" longer than the industry standard. I can make sleeves custom length if you prefer a longer or shorter sleeve fit.
Sizing
Chore Coats are an easy fitting 'over garment' intended to be worn over work shirts, overalls, or the occasional vest or sweater. The finished garment should have 6" to 8" additional chest room; this is generally the sweet spot for allowing movement room and some layering.
When ordering choose your standard Suit Size or measure your chest beneath your arms using a cloth tailors tape measure and chose the size which is closest to your measurement.
For example, if your chest measures 42" select size 42.
If your chest measures 43" decide if you would prefer a looser or trimmer fit and choose the size accordingly.
